Is it illegal to take a non-branded fashion item and put my own logo on it?

Fox in the Snow asked:

I want to buy necklaces on ebay from chinese sources and sell them to local boutiques with my brand name on it. Isn’t it just the same as taking a generic product and embroidering your own logo on it? I think people do this all the time… anyway I don’t think I’ll get caught, I just want to make sure it isn’t illegal.

Thanks.

Natalie

If you didn’t make them and are trying to pass them off as your own, it’s fraud….of course it’s illegal….and you will get caught.

You are misrepresenting the product. You may not get caught, but you are deceiving your customers. If you want to private label something, at least do it honestly. Suppose you bought a Pepsi that was in a Coke bottle.
